I have been thinking a lot about leadership and legacy and I realized that Bitches Who Brunch died a sad death when I left Victoria because I left quickly (voted off the island- j/k), and I didn’t engage any of the members in order to see it move forward. Between work and MBA land I have not had a lot of time to make this happen but when I did reach out to the member on Facebook and Twitter I was really happy with the result. My goal for the end of the day is to connect the new generation of Queen Bs and additional administrators for the facebook group. I am really excited to engage with the Vancouver crew and get brunching.

The Second Coming of Brunch

As I gear up to start back on my MBA (corporate finance & research methods… ugh!) and my consulting company becomes increasingly more active, organizing two brunches a month seems like a bit of an ambitious undertaking. I realized last brunch that I need to be way more organized and engaged with my fellow bitches, and I think a good way to do that is to keep my blog more active, ok lets be honest, active in general, and to carefully select brunch locations that will take reservations (don’t get me started on the reservation issue) so it is more than just agreeing to show up somewhere at a particular time.

The turn out for last brunch was really low and I think there were a few reasons:
1.   There was no reservation process so people didn’t feel the same commitment
2.   I didn’t select a place that had a variety of menu options HELP US FIND GOOD VEAGN AND WHEAT FREE BRUNCH SPOTS that take rezos
3.   My communications were few and lack-luster
Last brunch we decided to head to Cabin 12 for their fundraiser. They were doing a French toast by donation to help them stay open, and as a local business lady I was keen to roll down and support. I had the sourdough toast with berries and whip cream and my girlfriend has sourdough with apple cinnamon and whip.
I think we will aim for the next brunch to take place December 19, 2009.
I would love to get some suggestions and feedback regarding the following:
1.   What should Bitches Who Brunch do about the fluxuating group size and trying to find brunch spots?
2.   Where should we go next that has a more accommodating menu?

Our First Bruch

I was really excited and a bit nervous about our first brunch. It felt like throwing a party and then wondering if anyone is going to come. The whole idea is that everyone that I know is sure to have great friends that I would want to know and out first event proved just that.
Before I left the house, I did what every good PR person does and did a Facebook search to see if we knew anyone in common and to pull a couple of conversation points. As it turns out I met one of the Bitches (Bitches always said lovingly and in the true feminist spirit of reappropriation) at a friends 40th Birthday. The small world hypothesis was again proving to be true.
We gathered at Lucy’s in the Square at 12 noon and had a lovely table along the left wall. Slowly I watch old and new friends burst through the door and sit down to brunch. The space itself used to be the Thin Edge of the Wedge, a delicious anarchist pizza place that is now beautiful, warm and inviting.
The menu was really interesting and I had a hard time deciding what to have. I forgot the other best part about dining with women is that we like to share. Before our food arrived, a special delivery of tiny muffins were brought to our table, and being the kind of girl I am, I thought we were special… but nope it was a special touch for all their guests.
Our next brunch is this weekend and I will be happy if our experience comes even close to our fabulous time at Lucy’s in the Square.

Welcome to the Bitches who Brunch blog. This blog will follow the social experiment of joining different groups of women, brunching at various locations with a tiny bit of restaurant critique.

My main reason for starting BwB is to tap into the six degrees of separation and meet the friends of my friends. In a small city it can be hard to grow your network and so BwB is a unique opportunity to network with a cocktail before noon.
